Healthy Thursdays
I tried to think up a little saying for each day of the week and the only thing I came up with for Thursday was Healthy Thursday. I thought for these posts, I could post about nutrition and meal ideas since losing weight isn't just about working out, it's more-so about changing the way we eat and live our lives. For me, I decided to cut pasta out of my daily diet. My all time favorite food is spaghetti. I read this book as a kid called "More Spaghetti, I say!", maybe that's why.
But seriously, I could eat spaghetti every single day. I pretty much did, in fact, for the past year. I've opted for whole wheat pasta, no sauce and only diced tomatoes with other chopped veggies, but for me the issue is portions. Until I can get my weight under control, I need to deprive myself of pasta as best I can which,in itself, will already cut out a lot of my calories.
One interesting thing I found is something called Negative Calorie Foods. Apparently they are foods that burn more calories to digest than actually the amount of calories in them. Pretty cool since at my last shopping trip I picked up apples, celery, grapefruit, cucumber, mango, and oranges. Going forward, I am for sure going to try to have some of these on hand at all time for those late night occasions that I get the munchies.
And lastly, as I mentioned in my Fitness Friday post, I started making this drink called a "Bombshell Spell" from the ladies at Tone it Up that I have become obsessed with. All the comments about the drink were so positive and the first time I tried it I thought: "Really? Ugh, another bad weight loss drink that I wont be able to stick with." But I went ahead and made it a couple more times and yeah, sure enough, I'm in love with it too. I think the apple cider vinegar took a minute to get used to, but now it's the highlight of my days. All it is is 1 cup of pineapple juice (I use a small can that has like a cup and a half) and then 1 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar, a sprinkle of lime, and 1 Tbsp of honey. Whenever I make it, the honey just gets hard because the drink is cold, so I actually only just drop a tiny bit in once I have the drink all mixed. I read in some of the comments one girl started using maple syrup (I tried it and didn't like it because it takes away from the beach-babe-summer feeling the drink currently gives me).. Honestly, the drink tastes perfectly good, to me, with just the pineapple juice and the apple cider vinegar. But the apple cider vinegar is key. Among its many benefits, apple cider vinegar is thought to help break down fats to help us use them instead of store them. Can't hurt to add it to my drink, if so many benefits are linked with it! Although, I keep seeing: "organic pineapple juice and raw apple cider vinegar." Maybe I should go to whole foods and get ones that say organic and raw on them? Now that I love the drink, I don't mind investing a few extra dollars to get it right! :) Healthy eating!
