Hold up though, did I just have a revelation? I lost one pound, and burned about 3000-3500 calories (including work and natural calorie burning throughout the day it would be 3500 at least). And I only lost one pound. Does this mean I have to burn 7000 a week to lose 2 lbs? Or come in 7000 under budget each week? Oh goodness, shall I start running now?
Just did some research. So that makes sense, I guess. It's a calorie deficit - meaning you burn MORE calories than you eat. 500 calories burned at the gym per day X 7 days a week = 1 pound per week. Since I only went 5 days, and burned 3480.1 calories, it makes sense I'd lose only one pound. LoseIt allows me to check out all these awesome reports to review my weight, calorie intake, exercise, and nutrients. Here is a look at my exercise calories burned showing it at 3480. If I burn double that per week, I'll lose 2 lbs per week. Wow! This really is eye opening!!
BARE WITH ME *just kidding, that's like an invitation to get undressed...* BEAR WITH ME WHILE I CRUNCH SOME NUMBERS HERE:
So if I ate... 1200 calories a day, I'd have to burn 1700 calories a day, making a 500 calorie deficit to lose 1 lbs per week. That means I need to work at burning 2200 calories a day if I want to meet my 2 lbs per week goal. In fairness, that was my goal last week and I thought that was a high goal, but evidently that is the only way to lose 2 lbs. Haha. I've been averaging 600-750 calories at the gym each time I go, I guess I'll just have to keep working to get that number up to 1000, in addition I need to be active ALL day, and make sure I'm moving around a lot and always burning.
I found that according to caloriecount.com, I might be burning a lot of calories at work and such that I wasn't going to factor in but maybe I should? I figured the calories I burn at work are calories I have always burned at work, and my body is used to that. So that in order to lose weight I'd have to burn on top of those calories. But maybe I should count them, since mathematically, they are still getting burned. "Walking - 2.5 Mph, Slowly and Carrying Light Objects Less Than 25 Pound for 300 minutes/5 hours is 1211 calories." I work 8 hour days so i figured at least I am moving 5 hours out of those 8, and most of the time I'm carrying something or pushing something. Anyway, my point is on average on a work day I probably burn at least 1000 calories which is why my goal at the gym is only 1000 calories. Pft, ONLY... as if that's not a lot. :)
